THE DANCER HEINZ BOSL

I made a short film about Heinz Bosl just before his 28th birthday, in 1975. An incredibly beautiful personality, and already a dance legend, he would be dead one year later. His mother, physician, friends, and dance partners couldn't find the heart to tell him that he had cancer. 

The heart of my 45-minute memorial is that earlier short film. It begins in slow motion, with a piece of bravura: the variation from the second act of Giselle. He didn't know then that Prinz Albert would be his last part. Among those who mourned his loss were his partners. Prima ballerina Margot Fonteyn was one, but it was with Konstanze Vernon (1939-2013) that he reached the peak of his art. For many years, Munich’s dance world adored Bosl/Vernon as the ultimate fulfillment of classical ballet. Vernon established the Heinz Bosl Foundation in honor of his memory.

The film shows scenes from Bosl's performances, interwoven with sad and happy memories of the people who were closest to him.
